A Sunday School Teacher Gets Arrested for Driving Under the Influence, Gets Motivated and Inspired To Obtain Alcohol Treatment for Her Abusive and Excessive Drinking, Increases Her Sense of Worth, and Establishes More Love and Commitment in Her Dating Relationships

TheLoudestVoice | May 7, 2010

For the past twenty-six years Jenny has been a nurse practitioner at a municipal hospital. Moreover, she has also been teaching Sunday school at the local Episcopalian Church. Even though she lived in a medium size countryside town where it appeared like every person knew everyone’s business, very little was known about Jenny. Without a doubt virtually everyone knew that she had worked more than a few years as a registered nurse and that she taught Sunday school for as long as she was a resident of their small community. Other than that, however, it almost appeared as if Jenny was merely a visitor in their town.

You can picture the excitement that happened when it was discovered that one Sunday morning Jenny had lost consciousness due to drinking and driving. As a matter of fact, the article in the local weekly paper claimed that Jenny not only became unconscious, but that she also was arrested for driving under the influence because her blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit for intoxication. This is certainly one of the alcohol effects on the body that no Sunday school teacher wants to have made public to the entire community. But this is exactly what took place, much to the embarrassment of Jenny.

Jenny Gets Extremely Distraught About Her Arrest For Driving While Intoxicated

Obviously, Jenny was very dissatisfied about her DWI. Not only should she have known better about driving while intoxicated because of her nursing job, but she also should have held herself accountable to a more lofty benchmark because of the straightforward fact that she taught Sunday school.

After her drunk driving arrest, Jenny thought about moving out of town so that she would not have to feel saddened about her arrest and also so she wouldn’t have to clarify her actions for the five hundredth time to other town residents. After going over things with her minister, nonetheless, she decided that she would get alcohol treatment at a local drug and alcohol treatment hospital. She did this for two fundamental reasons. First, it was easy for her to drive to a local treatment clinic. And second, she frankly wanted the message to get out among all the people in the community that she was in all honesty dealing with her hazardous and abusive drinking.

Jenny Goes Through Detox and Gets a Complete Physical Examination

After Jenny went through detox, she got completely examined by a healthcare professional at the rehabilitation facility. She then underwent a number of laboratory tests where it was validated that she was not addicted to alcohol but instead was involving herself in abusive and excessive drinking. In short Jenny was engaging in long term alcohol abuse.

Jenny was given the alternative of getting alcohol treatment as an in-patient or getting registered as an outpatient. Jenny, nonetheless, believed that she could still work as an RN and keep her Sunday school teaching position if she were to be registered as an out-patient and this is exactly what she did.

According to her counseling action plan, Jenny went to two rehabilitation sessions twice per month, she learned more than she ever wanted to know about alcohol info, she worked on her homework “assignments,” she got therapy for her depression and other mental health issues, and she found out how to do things in life without having anything to do with drinking.

After ten weeks, Jenny concluded that her careless drinking was under control and so she got discharged from the drug and alcohol rehabilitation hospital under the condition that she would return for follow up counseling once every three months for the next eight months. Jenny signed an agreement form and followed through on her “word of honor.”

Jenny Decides to Abstain From All Drinking Situations, Discovers That Her Self Esteem Becomes More Enhanced, and Fosters More Love and Commitment in Her Dating Relationships

After she went through her counseling Jenny reasoned that she would be able to drink in moderation. After thinking about things more rigorously, nevertheless, she determined that she would totally abstain from all drinking situations.

When Jenny arrived at this conclusion, she learned that her self-confidence grew the more she displayed her power over her life. And as her positive attitude about herself grew stronger, it appeared that she became more friendly and began going to more community functions such as Christmas tree lighting ceremonies, flower festivals, carnivals, music festivals, rib roasts, strawberry festivals, and local high school basketball and football games. Jenny also began to establish more love and commitment in her dating relationships.

Jenny Addresses Her Hazardous and Irresponsible Drinking, Decides To Do Something Positive About It, and Rediscovers Her Faith

As the months went by, the residents in the community manifested more fondness for Jenny because she was involving herself with them more regularly and also because she faced her excessive and abusive drinking and decided to do something beneficial about it. It may have been her imagination, but it also appeared that her Sunday school pupils showed more respect and appreciation for her.

Jenny is a living illustration of a person who faced a critical predicament and who did something positive about it. She is also an individual who learned that her religious faith is not only something that is private, but that it is also something that affects the way in which an individual interacts with other individuals.
